Who can apply for the Self Employment Program
Individuals residing in the Powell River area who:
a) Have an active Employment Insurance (E.I.) Claim OR
b) Have had an E.I. claim in the last three years OR
c) Have had an E.I. claim for maternity/paternal leave in the last five years
Where to start
Orientation
Attend one of the monthly one-day orientations (see schedule or phone for dates).
Develop a Business Concept Outline. The proposed business must meet the following criteria:
- A business venture new to the individual;
- A full-time, year-round operation;
- At least 51 per cent ownership;
- A financial, or in-kind, contribution by the owner
Apply for SE Stage I (Six weeks of full time business plan development with financial support)
- Business Planning Workshop
- Assistance completing financial projections
- Proofread and provide feedback on business plans
Apply for SE Stage II (Business implementation)
- Business start-up
- Mentoring
- Workshops
- "Future Connections" Meetings (networking sessions and more!)
Business Concepts
Preference will be given to products or services that:
- replace products or services to the Powell River area that are currently imported
- have export potential to other areas

Community Futures Development Corporation of the Powell River Region manages Investment Funds that provide loans to small businesses that are starting up or expanding. Applications for financing may be directed to the Business Investment Counsellor along with a completed Business Plan.
